Anonymous asked: Would you ever consider taking a picture of a WOMAN with a beard?
It would have to be a really really REALLY awesome beard.
Technically, “This blog exists to celebrate beards and the stellar men that sport them,” so the odds are very slim that I would ever feature a lady beard…
I doubt that I would ever consider the facial hair of a bearded lady as a “good beard…”

I was far too excited to get this fella’s name.
I stumbled across this guy and his artful beard while I was in the checkout line in Food Lion. I nearly dropped my Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey when I noticed his facial masterpiece.
He told me that what he was sporting currently was nothing compared to what he has done in the past. Hopefully he reads this and sends me more pictures to share!
I’m not usually into manicured beards, especially beards with designs, but this guy was really proud of his facial-scaping so I couldn’t help but appreciate.
Beard on, unknown man, beard on.

Anonymous asked: Why are you so awesome? Were you born that way, or is that a major at JMU?
An apple a day, my friend. An apple a day.

This is Jake.
He is the boyfriend of my wonderful and lovely friend, Abby!
I first noticed Jake’s beard when he was playing guitar with the worship team at an Intervarsity large group at JMU! I knew at once that I had to feature him at some point.
Jake has been growing his current beard for about three months now. He has it going on and off because he’s apparently “lazy!”
Jake says that his beard makes him feel like a man. He was able to grow it about two years before the norm, so it makes him feel confident.
Jake, like many others, participated in “No Shave November.” Like every man should, he always carries it out until December, January, February, and March.
During a moment of experimentation, he shaved his whole beard off, but kept the mustache. The mustache zone is a dangerous arena to enter, and like many others who venture onto this path he ended up looking too much like a pedophile. Needless to say, Jake said goodbye to the ‘stache!
I was overjoyed when I heard that Jake has a love for folk music. Similarly to how folk music inspired my love of beards, the genre of music led Jake to give the beard a try! Jake also loves to play ultimate frisbee and is undeclared at JMU.

I know it’s not Monday, but…
Better late than never I always say!! I recently arrived home from college and unfortunately the internet connection at my house is TERRIBLE, so bear with me as I try to provide the tumblr world with their beard fix.

This is Logan.
Logan has been growing his beard since around November. So many great beards have been born from No Shave November!
Logan is a poet and he enjoys playing with his beard because it makes him feel more contemplative. When I asked Logan what kind of poetry he writes he answered, “The good kind.” This statement is obviously true, as Logan was recognized as the most promising creative writing student this year.
Logan works at the rock wall at UREC with D-Falt (who I featured a few weeks ago). He was also a snowboarding instructor at Massanutten, which is a very beard conducive environment.
When I inquired about his flowing mane of hair, Logan proceeded to tell me how during his junior year of high school he cut it all off because of a random bet made at CiCi’s Pizza! He prefers his hair long, though, and if he could, he would have a nice long beard like Walt Whitman, who just happens to be my favorite poet!

Shaving Nate’s beard.

This is Nate.
I had been getting texts for weeks from various friends about “The Dude With the Purple Beard” and finally, one fateful Thursday after I had just finished struggling/biking up the village hill, I saw him. Out of breath I complimented him on his wondrous beard and told him about my blog. He informed me that at 9 pm that night that he was having a “Beard Shaving Extravaganza” and naturally I accepted his invitation to be apart of the tragic, yet awesome experience!
As I walked in his dorm later that night he was ripping up a trash bag, “making a beard suit” for the shaving that was about to commence. He was telling some of his residents about how he “can get slapped in the face and it doesn’t even hurt!” What a boss.
He had been growing his beard for exactly 6 months and 3 days. His inspiration for growing his beard was the fact that he hadn’t grown out his beard in 6 months and 3 days… He also said it was, “A YOLO moment.” He decided to dye his beard purple one month ago because of his love for JMU! During the dying process he had to bleach his beard and said he, “basically had to rub bleach into his tender flesh.” He said that he “almost cried and passed out!” That’s dedication.
His beard is extremely popular around campus. JMUgirlproblem tweeted about his beard and literally every day he received compliments for his beard. One of his proudest moments was one day in Dhall when a visiting 6th grader approached him and said, “Nice beard man!”
Nate said that his beard makes him feel like “a rebel with out a cause… like James Dean before he died!” Nate’s beard is his hiding place, where he goes when he’s sad and lonely. It’s his place of refuge! He said that he’ll “pull out candy that he hid there weeks before.” Tasty!
Despite his beards glowing glory, he had to let it go. With buzzing razor in hand Nate declared, “I’m ready.” Nate and his beard, once one, are now apart. It was a sad, yet liberating moment for him. Hopefully the beard will make a reappearance soon!!

This is D-Falt.
He was one of the amazing guides on my MOAT (Madison Orientation Adventure Trip) this summer!
D-Falt has been growing his beard for about 9 months. To him, his beard means “not caring about anything.” Which is absolutely fantastic.
One time, someone told D-Falt that his beard accentuated his love for “black metal,” which is Norwegian metal music. The tshirt he is wearing advertises his favorite black metal band, Immortal. The history of black metal consists of a bunch of hard-core Norwegians thinking that regular metal music was too commercialized and coming up with a more aggressive and intense metal sound. When I listened to it I almost cried, that’s how hard-core it is!
Adventure and the outdoors are a big part of D-Falt’s life. He is really into kayaking, rivers, and nature and he feels like having a beard connects him to all of that. D-Falt is such a great, happy person and his beard is simply marvelous!!
